Arbois Vin Jaune 14º 62cl 2000

Arbois Vin Jaune 14º 62cl 2000

The wine for which the Jura is best known. The Savagnin grapes are late picked and after fermentation the wine is stored in oak casks for a minimum of 6 years and 3 months. Evaporation (13cl - known as the angels' share - are lost from every 75cl, giving the odd bottle size) allows air into the cask and and a layer of yeast forms on top of the wine. In taste its nearest familiar relation would be an fine old fino sherry with a slightly nutty and spicy nose and like sherry it is drunk as an aperitif but also with nuts or foie gras. This wine won the 2005 gold medal for Arbois vin jaune.

Arbois Naturé 2005

Arbois Naturé 2005

Like a good Chardonnay with more than a hint of Sauvignon Blanc plus a bit more. We didn’t used to stock any other whites and the reason we have this wine is because we bring it in for ourselves ! However we have decided it would be selfish not to share. Naturé is the old name for the Savagnin or Traminer grape used in the famous oxidised Vin Jaune (see above). This however is the unoxidised version. Very fresh, balanced and lightly fruity, clean, nutty, slightly citrus.
Jamie Goode at wineanorak.com described the 1999 as 'fresh and characterful, made in a clean modern style but still retaining personality. It has a beguiling fresh herby nose with some lemony notes. Concentrated, dense and rich on the palate with fresh fruit. Delicious. Very good/excellent 90/100'
